Took the scenic route home last night.
The unusual thing, to my way of thinking, is the covered bridge turns out to have been built in 1982 and dedicated to a politician who was still alive at the time.

1982? I mean, it doesn’t seem out of place given the scenery, but still seems out of the wrong era of time.

Exactly. I looked at it like 5 times, thinking I was seeing a 9 when it was really an 8. Looked it up online later, 1982..

Yeah, don't get me wrong, it's a useful place for a bridge and it might have been around the same time they setup a scenic cycling trail along the river the bridge crosses, but...

Looks like a normal road bridge with a covered wooden decoration left on top

After taking a closer look myself, I’m fairly certain that’s the case. The question on my mind is why they did that and dedicated it to a local businessman/politician. I may have to do some actual research..

I’d assume it was replacing an older covered bridge, and people didn’t like the aesthetic loss of going from a charming covered bridge to a concrete slab.
Nothing wrong with spending a little more for attractive infrastructure.

This one was built in 1990, right near me. In fact I used to work just on the other side of it, so I went over it all the time:
However, it was built using traditional methods, and in fact it was put in place using a team of oxen. They have to periodically repair the wood surface, but it gets a ton of traffic and holds up great.

That is a very beautiful bridge.
